Shuttle Endeavour Departure

Well, the sunrise wasn't as interesting as last time, but it was still a beautiful morning for the Shuttle Endeavour as it left the Space Coast for it's new life in a California Museum.
I was photographing from on top of the Vehicle Assembly Building again. It was windy up there, and pretty cloudy when we first arrived. Luckily the cloud layer burned off as the sun started coming up.
It was certainly sad to see her go. There were many NASA employees that had tears in their eyes as it finally disappeared in the distance.

Shuttle Endeavour Piggyback

It was another early morning for the Last Shuttle team. NASA had us up at the crack of dawn to get an up-close look at the Space Shuttle Endeavour as it is readied for it's cross-country trip to Los Angeles. This giant structure is known as the mate-demate device. It hoists the shuttle into the air and then lowers it onto the back of the specially designed plane that will carry it across the country.
After it was backed out, I was allowed to climb on the walkways of the structure and photograph it from above.
I took a few photos inside the 747, but they really aren't that interesting. It's a big empty plane, with a small area towards the front to carry about 15 people. But here's a view from the entry door on the side looking up.
This is how she looks from around the other side.
NASA let employees bring their families along to take a few final photos before it's gone forever.
And I thought you might enjoy this unique view. This is the end of the runway, looking North. We mounted a few remote cameras in the grass here to catch it as it flies over. But look at those clouds! It looks like they painted on. I just couldn't resist taking a few photos.
You can see Endeavour sitting in the distance on the bottom right. It is now scheduled to depart Wednesday morning. Hopefully it does because I need to fly home on Thursday!

Naperville Wine Festival

I have been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to stop and share things on the blog. I'm going to try to rectify that over the next few days. I'm going back through the past month and see what interesting images I can find for you.

I'll start with the Naperville Wine Festival. I shot this for Calamos Investments which hosted it on their property for the second year in a row. That's beautiful Hotel Arista you see in the last shot.
