Small Business WINNER!

Jeffrey Ross Photography was awarded the 2012 Small Business of the Year in the Professional category! Yeah, I know... I was surprised too! But it was a wonderful surprise, and one that I will cherish for years to come.
My head is still swimming from everything that happened that night. I want to thank Ron Hume from 360 Youth Services for stepping in to take photos during my category. The images I'm sharing with you here are his.
I really couldn't believe it when they called my name. I was so glad that many of my friends were in attendance that night. All I heard was them shouting and yelling before they even finished announcing my name. I honestly didn't have a speech prepared, but I'm usually pretty good with an open mic. I got up there and managed to string together a few coherent sentences. I don't remember what I said, but I was told that it sounded pretty good.
The greatest part of the whole evening is that my kids were there to watch me win. Just seeing how happy they were when I got back to the table was a moment I don't think I'll ever forget. Here's my group at the end of the evening- My son Taylor, daughter Maya in the back, and my girlfriend Catherine.
I don't know what the future holds for me, but this was a fantastic moment in my life. It's great to know that I wasn't actually selected by the Chamber. I was judged and chosen by an elite group of other business owners that have won this award in years past. That's pretty incredible to think about. And it's a responsibility I will carry forward as I am now given the honor of helping to select the winners in years to come.

Naperville Bank & Trust

The new Naperville Bank & Trust branch has opened in the old post office in downtown Naperville. I not only documented the rehab and construction of the building, but they are displaying five of my photos in the lobby space.
I just had NO idea they were going to print them so large! If you stood this print on its side it would be bigger than me. I'm really happy with how it all turned out. If you need to know who did the printing, get in touch with me and I'll track down his contact info.

Small Business Nomination

I am really excited to share that I have been nominated for the Naperville Small Business of the Year Awards. The Chamber of Commerce tells me that I'm the first photographer to ever be nominated. This area has one of the most active and successful business communities in Illinois, so I'm honored to be considered this year.

I had to put together a nomination packet for the judges showcasing the history of my business; including financial data, involvement in the community, and letters of recommendation from notable people. With the help of the very talented graphic designer Catherine Dalzell, the packet looks wonderful. I also included two issues of The Works magazine, and a promotional video. The whole thing is contained in a sleek metal box with my logo on the front. I think it looks amazing. I hope the judges think so too.
Being nominated made me take a good look at the details of what I have been doing the past 10 years or so, and see how far I've come. You can read more about the Small Business Awards for this year HERE

The awards ceremony is Friday May 18th. I'll let you know how it goes. There are so many other great businesses being considered, but I'm still hoping for the best. Thanks to all my friends and colleagues that helped review the packet as it was being created and give me advice. I really appreciate it.
